Wine of the Month

October 2017 Wine of the Month

Ravage – Cabernet Sauvignon The 2015 vintage came in fast and early with loose clusters and small berries ripening rapidly in the heat. Solid canopies and low tonnage helped flavors come into balance, which resulted in concentrated wines that showed true Cabernet Sauvignon varietal characteristics. Dark, rich, and audacious. Dark berries layered with luscious vanilla and mocha to round out the palate. The tannins are soft enough to add balance, while giving structure and depth. Aged 100% in new French oak – Blend: 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 10% Zinfandel, 3% Syrah, 1% other reds $10.99

August 2017 Wine of the Month

Pazo San MauroAlbariño The Pazo San Mauro winery, located in DO Rias Baixas, Spain, was acquired in 2003 by Marqués de Vargas Family Wines & Estates from Rioja.  The winery produces two white wines from the Albariño grape; all grapes are grown in the estate’s own vineyards. Tasting Notes: Pronounced varietal personality, with notes of fresh fruit, citrus and floral aromas. Highly aromatic and nicely balanced, with an interesting, tasty and elegant aftertaste. Description: A mono-varietal wine resulting from a meticulous selection of the best grapes on the property. The vineyards extend on rolling banks of the river Miño, creating a natural amphitheater, bathed in extraordinary sunlight during the midday hours. The vines are planted on trellises so that the very best fruit grows in optimum conditions, reaching its peak quality. The vineyards enjoy an exceptional micro-climate in the most southern and sunniest area of the D.O. Rias Baixas. The grapes are exposed to long hours of sunshine allowing early ripening and complex structures, and yet retaining the maximum acidity.
